
Recent studies have shown that non-technical competencies and personal attitudes like teamwork, communication, integrity, creativity, leadership, management, reliability and self-motivation have become skills for employability, side by side with technical competencies.
The Colombo Plan Staff College for Technician Education (CPSC), in collaboration with the National Institute for Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India, committed to contribute to all aspects of human resources development, jointly organize an in-country program on "Non-Technical Competencies for Technicians" held from 12-23 December 2005 in Chennai, India.
The two-week program intends to:
- Acknowledge the basic concept and importance of non-technical skills for technicians.
- Understand the importance of teams, team work and team building in the organizations and projects.
- Understand the needs of having effective communication skills in the organization.
- Know the importance of values for learning and working together.
- Realize the importance of project management and entrepreneurial skills as part of non-technical skills.
- Acknowledge the importance of achievement motivation in non-technical competencies.
Thirty participants composed of education officers, directors, officials from schools and TVET institutions are attending the program.
The CPSC Director General and CEO, Dr. Man-Gon Park, manages the overall direction of the program as Course Supervisor.
Dr. Soon Hyung Park, Assistant Faculty, acts as Course Coordinator and Resource Person, while Dr. SK Dhameja,
CPSC Faculty Consultant, is Course Co-Coordinator. The program is locally coordinated by Dr. G.B. Jaiprakash Narain,
Director, NITTTR.
