
The Colombo Plan Staff College for Technician Education (CPSC) and the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT), joined efforts in developing opportunities for the women sector of Nepal to learn knowledge and skills as base for vocational growth through its collaborative undertaking In-Country Program on "Women Development in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)" from 20-24 February 2006 at CTEVT, Kathmandu, Kingdom of Nepal.
The main objective of the program was to provide development perspectives for women participation and evolve models within the framework of women empowerment and gender mainstreaming. The expected output of the program was a gender-responsive action plan putting into use the concepts and theories learned and the experiences shared. The program utilized both face-to-face and web-based teaching and learning delivery systems to impart the desired knowledge, skills and values to the participants.
Specifically, at the end of the program, the participants were expected to:
- build awareness on women development in TVET: the employment status, problems and issues, and features;
- determine mainstreaming gender concerns and empowerment strategies that would improve access of women to employment;
- demonstrate the CPSC Web-Based Teaching and Learning System as an innovative way of service delivering to women in the rural areas; and
- develop the necessary knowledge and skills to initiate, implement and evaluate entrepreneurship development programs.
The program offered a vibrant learning and networking opportunities for the 25 policy makers, experts working for TVET institutions who are responsible for women empowerment programs, representatives of women's organizations and industries involved in the promotion of gender equality and development, and gender focal points.
Dr. Man-Gon Park, CPSC Director General handled the overall direction of the program as Program Supervisor. Dr. Ligaya D. Valmonte, CPSC Faculty Consultant, acted as Coordinator and Resource Person, assisted by CPSC Training Assistant, Mr. Sang Hyun Park. Mr. Dinesh Devkota, Director, Technical Division, CTEVT, Nepal served as the Local Coordinator.
The roster of resource persons included Prof. Myong Hee Kim, Dr. Hazrat Hussain, both CPSC Faculty Consultants, and Dr. Aslesha Subba Sharma, Director, Research and Information Division, CTEVT, Nepal.
